The Act requires both employers and self-employed individuals to ensure the safety and health of all persons, not just employees, protecting them from injury and health risks.

As a result, the level of risk in your workplace and the nature of the work will determine the number of designated first aid staff needed to be on duty to provide first aid. These designated first aiders must hold a current statement of attainment or obtain a nationally recognized qualification in accordance with the new code of practice.

The Occupational Health, Safety, and Welfare Act 1986 outlines the key responsibilities employers must fulfill regarding First Aid. Employers are legally obligated to make provisions to ensure their employees receive immediate medical attention when needed.

Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a personal number that records all your nationally recognised training results from January 1, 2015. It’s similar to your tax file number or CRN—once allocated, it remains yours for life.

The USI helps track your training and provides evidence of all courses you’ve completed since January 1, 2015. You will need a USI to enroll in any accredited training course in Australia, including FirstAidPro courses. Providing your USI during enrollment, either over the phone or online, ensures you receive your certificate promptly.

Obtaining your USI is a simple process and should only take a few minutes on the Australian Government website. Please note that this is an external process, and First Aid Skills staff cannot complete it for you. The USI is a government-mandated requirement for anyone in Australia attending accredited training. You can apply for your USI HERE. For step-by-step instructions or video training on how to get your USI, click HERE.

Before attending the face-to-face training, you must complete the pre-course reading and quiz, and bring both with you to the training session. This is a self-paced, self-directed, and mandatory part of the course. The time required to complete the quiz will vary for each learner, depending on their prior knowledge, skills, and experience.

Yes, we can deliver on-site first aid training at your office, tailored to meet your workplace needs. The First Aid Program can be customized to address the specific risks of your worksite, including general instructions, workplace hazards, and relevant knowledge and skills for handling injuries unique to your environment. If needed, we are happy to adapt our training materials to better suit your workplace requirements.

The room should be spacious enough to accommodate a group and allow for simulated scenarios, such as activities that require lying or kneeling on the floor. Ideally, we only need a level, carpeted floor or mats, a whiteboard, and comfortable chairs. Additionally, heating or cooling, as well as access to toilet and kitchen facilities, are desirable.

As a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU), you are responsible for ensuring that a sufficient number of workers are trained to provide first aid in the workplace, or that workers have access to an adequate number of individuals who are trained to administer first aid.

  • Low-risk workplaces: one first aider for every 50 workers

  • Photo identification (e.g., Driver’s Licence)
